After-School
All Ages
Before, during, & after-school socialization and recreation
Socialization and care that continues after the school bell rings.
Our after-school program provides a supportive, engaging space for school-aged children and young adults who need ongoing nursing care. Each afternoon, students arrive to find the right balance of structure and freedom with opportunities to socialize, complete homework, participate in group activities, or choose their own adventure through crafts, games, and creative play.
Staffed by activity leaders and teachers trained in early childhood and special education, the program blends social, educational, and therapeutic goals. Funded through Medi-Cal and Kern Regional Center, Caring Corner makes care accessible for every family who needs it.

SOCIALIZATION & RELATIONSHIP BUILDING
Something a care plan can’t capture
Children and young adults grow the most when they feel safe, supported, and engaged. Our afternoons are built around that. Socialization doesn't come naturally to every child, but our staff know how to help foster those friendships.
At Caring Corner, children of all ages are introduced to learning materials, educational activities, and peer interaction with thoughtfully designed classrooms divided into learning centers. They meet other children who use wheelchairs, feeding tubes, and communication devices and practice the skills that make community possible — sharing, waiting, asking for help, resolving a disagreement, celebrating someone else's win. With our adaptive equipment and integrated approach to medical care, they have the opportunity to participate in activities they didn't know were possible.

Classroom Centers
Classrooms are designed with age-appropriate toys, sensory materials, and adaptive equipment. Hands-on, engaging learning experiences that support creativity, independence, and growth in social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills are a core part of our education programs.
Whether a child is building, painting, sorting, or engaging with peers, each activity empowers children to learn through play while working toward their educational and therapy goals. Our teachers and nurses collaborate closely to individualize materials and activities for each child’s age and ability, ensuring every experience is both safe and meaningful.
-
Children express themselves, develop creativity, and enhance social and language skills through art and music. They explore new concepts, experiment with shapes and colors, and engage with music from various cultures, building academic, emotional, and self-regulation skills.
-
Role-playing activities help children learn to take turns, cooperate, and communicate while building vocabulary, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Dramatic play promotes imagination, social interaction, and emotional expression.
-
Children use blocks and manipulatives to express creativity, problem-solve, and develop mathematical skills. These activities strengthen hand muscles, promote cooperation, and foster independence, attention, and self-esteem.
-
Students explore, observe, and investigate the world through hands-on STEM activities. They develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills while learning scientific concepts and fostering curiosity and a love of discovery.
